Consultations

Everything you need to know about your consultation: appointments, registration and invoice.

Financial Information: Consultation

Approximately 2 months after your consultation or examination, you will receive your invoice. Below you will find answers to frequently asked questions about the costs of your consultation and the invoice you will receive.

Can I request a price simulation in advance?

If you have not yet had a consultation at UZA for a specific procedure and you would like to request a price simulation in advance, you can do so by filling out this form. Using the nomenclature codes, we can provide you with a cost estimate. The more information we have, the more accurate the estimate will be. You can obtain these codes from your treating or referring physician.

Do I need to pay a deposit?

  • No: If you are affiliated with a Belgian health insurance fund, or if you have European (EU) health insurance coverage, or if you can provide a payment commitment from an insurance company.
  • Yes: In all other cases. The amount of the deposit is determined individually and depends on the type of appointment. You pay the deposit at the central registration desk (entrance hall) using Bancontact.
Please note: Always bring your eID, KidsID, or ISI+ card with you to UZA. If you do not have your eID, KidsID, or ISI+ card with you at the hospital from 01/01/2024 onwards, you will always have to pay a deposit for medical services.

When will I receive the invoice?

You will receive the invoice in your mailbox approximately 2 months after your consultation or examination. Payment of your invoice must be made within 30 days of receipt. If you have any questions or payment difficulties, please contact the debt administration department at +32 (0)3 821 31 28 (on weekdays from 9 am to 12 pm).

Can I receive and pay my invoice online?

UZA sends out thousands of invoices by mail every month. To reduce paper waste, we now offer an efficient alternative: managing and paying invoices online through Doccle or POM.

Please note: If a "certificate of services rendered" was attached to your invoice, you cannot use Doccle or POM.

I am a member of a Belgian mutual insurance company. What about the financial arrangements?

If you are a member of a Belgian mutual insurance company, we apply the third-party payer system. This means that we directly invoice the reimbursement from the compulsory health insurance (insurance for medical care) to your health insurance fund. As a patient, you will only receive an invoice for your personal share that still needs to be settled.

I am not affiliated with a Belgian mutual insurance company. What about the financial arrangements?

You are affiliated with a Dutch health insurance company

UZA has established contracts with many Dutch health insurance companies so that the invoice is directly sent to the health insurer. However, for certain examinations not covered by the contract, you will still receive an invoice. Always contact your health insurance company before your consultation for more information.

If UZA has not entered into a contract with your health insurance company, the invoice will be issued directly to you.

Specific agreements have also been made with certain Dutch health insurance companies in case of hospital admission. Meer financiële informatie voor Nederlanders.

You are affiliated with a foreign health insurance company (excluding the Netherlands)

Before your consultation or examination, you will be required to pay a deposit of 50 euros or the total cost of the examinations if they are known in advance. The invoice will be issued directly to you.

You are an asylum seeker

The invoice will be settled directly with an accredited institution (OCMW, Red Cross, etc.) provided that you have:

  • an official document from FEDASIL (Federal Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers)
  • a valid social integration card and/or a payment commitment from the accredited institution indicating that your necessary and urgent medical expenses will be reimbursed.

You are residing illegally in Belgium

If you are residing illegally in Belgium, the invoice will be settled directly with the OCMW (Public Centre for Social Welfare) of your place of residence, provided that you have:

  • an official identification document
  • a payment commitment from the OCMW of your place of residence indicating that your necessary and urgent medical expenses will be reimbursed.

Are supplementary fees charged?

All physicians at UZA are affiliated with the RIZIV (National Institute for Health and Disability Insurance) for the services covered by the RIZIV nomenclature. This means that they charge the official rates and are not allowed to request additional fees (supplements).

How is the invoice settled in case of a work accident?

In case of a work accident, the invoice will be settled directly with the insurance institution of your employer if you provide us with the necessary information:

  • insurance institution
  • policy number, claim number
  • date of the accident
  • name and address of the employer

When will the invoice be settled directly with my OCMW/Fedasil?

The invoice will be settled directly with your OCMW if you have:

  • identity card or proof of identification
  • guarantee card and/or payment commitment from your OCMW or Fedasil
